About Attorney Susan L. Downs, MS, JD
Attorney Susan L. Downs has a passion for representing those in need. Practicing Social Security Disability is one way she pursues that passion. Attorney Downs understands the ins-and-outs of the disability process, from the idiosyncrasies of a particular judge right down to the subtleties of an effective appeal argument.
Attorney Downs prioritizes communicating directly with her clients and doing so with warmth and empathy. Her clients say she is "a bright spot" in a long and difficult process.
Prior to beginning her work in Social Security disability, Attorney Downs clerked in the Appellate Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, EDNC. Prior to that, she was a professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religion at St. Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Attorney Downs received her Juris Doctorate from the North Carolina Central University School of Law Evening Program. She also holds a Master of Science in Philosophy (specialization in Ethics) from the University of Utah and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, cum laude, from the University of Vermont.
When Attorney Downs is not helping her clients win their Social Security benefits, she can be found at one of the Triangle’s many partner dance events or spoiling her pug Sophie.
